Band of Brothers

Some idiot purposely triggered the fire alarm system or maybe
it went haywire causing it to activate. Fortunately, I was
having my afternoon nap during that time. Goodbye, sweet dream.

Anyway, I am damn pissed off about it. I decided to go for dinner.
When it comes to dinner, I don’t have much choice. Either
hostel canteen pigs feed or some lousy ramlee burger when i am
off for a quick dinner.

Since it’s only around 6, i went for the mamak stall which is 5min
walking distance from the hostel. I mostly patronize the mamak
stall among the malay warung & a few Chinese hawkers.

Now, the mamak stall, which I dearly call it The Indian Big Brothers
is operated by 5-7 workers. All in their 20-40s, they always serve
the customers in full enthusiasm. Each of them is being assigned
to a specific task yet they are able to work as a full team. Which
make them my BAND OF BROTHERS!

The "rifleman"usually does the cleaning, taking orders
and is also the cashier. They clean the table immediately after the
customer left. They never mess up the items ordered. And most
important, they sum up the bill for you without using any calculator!
They simply do the math in their mind. It may seem ordinary,
but when compared to other warung workers which can still get
the wrong amount using a calculator, they are good.

The most important job in the team, the "sniper" offers his skill
in making drinks. No mamak stall can be complete without their
trademark drink, the "Teh Tarik". Each cup of teh tarik is a
result of precisely executed movement in making the drink.
One wrong move and the whole cup of drink can be wasted
thus jeopardizing the whole team mission!

I personally salute the "heavy weapon crew." They consist of 2
member,1 of them handle the frying pan which is able to spew
out dozens of roti canai while the other toys with the wok.
The 1 with the wok, is the one who cooks my favorite,
Indo Mee Goreng(TM)!

There is an old man, in his sixties unmistakably the "Captain".
Laying out the plan and setting out the target revenue of the day,
this man is superb. Most men his age mostly are busy playing with
their grandchildren, this "captain" stand out to serve the people!

I am fine with their prices, their services and mostly, the attitude.
One downside do exist, the MSG is occasionally heavy....Pity me
for doing a post about mamak stall. Boredom can suck all the
sanity in wolfy :-(
